I can't install Vista because it seems like it doesn't recognize my hard drives. Right before the setup begins extracting files in XP, it gives me a message that says that it doesn't have drivers for "Intel(R) 82801GR/GH SATA RAID Controller", and a warning that they're required to start my computer. I've tried installing several times to a separate drive, to a logical partition, upgrading, booting from the disc, and nothing's worked.
When I try to install on a partition/separate drive from XP, everything goes fine until it restarts and goes to Windows setup, then immediately gives me a BSOD with messages advising me to check my hard drives for problems.
Trying to upgrade from XP gets me all the way to "Completing installation" before it restarts again and says that the upgrade was not successful.
Trying to install from restarting the computer and booting from the install disc shows no hard drives whatsoever in the screen that lets you pick which one to install on.
Is there any way around this problem so I can install it? And if not, how do I revert the computer's boot sequence so it goes straight to XP without my having to manually select it instead of Windows Setup again?

Intel(R) 82801GR/GH SATA RAID Controller - no drivers, can't

Is the BIOS set to boot from the separate drive? Is the BIOS set to boot from the RAID array?

Right now the separate drive is completely empty, so no, the BIOS isn't set to boot from it. If I changed the BIOS to boot from the RAID array, will that fix the problem?

Is XP installed on the RAID array? This is what it sounds like from your first post. If that's the case the boot loader is also on the RAID array. This means that Vista probably won't boot this way unless you have RAID drivers installed. I'm guessing but I would try setting the BIOS to boot from the CD/DVD first, then the separate drive. Boot from the Vista DVD and install Vista to the drive. This will preclude dual booting other than by switching the boot order back to whatever it is now. You will also probably not be able to access the RAID array from Vista. Wahtever you do make sure you have a current backup of your XP. Playing with boot sectors there is always a chance of losing data.

Kerry -
Thanks very much for your help. I changed my drive access to IDE instead of RAID in the BIOS setup menu, booted from the install disc and am running Vista fairly smoothly right now. Thanks again, I appreciate it.
Glad to hear you got it working.
